Stage Door Magazine
was created for a college project on Adobe InDesign. The brief was to make a magazine design based on a subject of our choice in the art style of a Bauhaus artist of our choice – I chose Wassily Kandinsky.
process
I chose a few visually striking pieces of Kandinsky’s art to base my visuals around. I focused mostly on pieces that had strong geometric elements and bright colours as I felt these could be the building blocks for an intuitive layout while giving space for the bright, theatrical colours associated with the musicals.
The biggest challenge at the beginning was integrating the musicals’ imagery with the artworks’ elements to look integrated and not like two competing visuals. I recreated prominent shapes and formations from the art pieces and layered them with the forms of the images I was using in similar shapes and integrated them into the magazine design.
