A World Away
was created for a PLC module in Adobe Photoshop. The brief was to create a movie concept and design a DVD cover and suite of marketing content and merchandise around it.
process
This project became an intense workshop in Photoshop and pushing my skills to their limits at the time. The biggest challenges were sourcing appropriate images for the DVD cover and editing them to feel like they belonged in the same setting. I feel I would have a much more successful time now in the few years since I completed this project but the lessons this project taught me in fundamental Photoshop skills is invaluable.
Choosing a concept with strong imagery created a range of interesting ideas to pull from for expanding the project into merchandise. I was limited by a list of criteria for merchandise but enjoyed the iteration process. Through this, I was able to find the most suitable ideas for each object while keeping them cohesive and on-brand. I then turned these into realistic mockups to bring the vision to life.
For the marketing itself, I created a magazine cover, some posters dotted around strategic places on public transport and a website homepage mockup which would have plenty of information about the movie. This would include the characters, behind-the-scenes exclusives with the cast, and a stargazing minigame to create a more interactive element.
